OBD tuning is the term used today for classical chip tuning (OBD = On-Board Diagnostic). Basically, OBD tuning is purely the form of reading out used in chip tuning. Modern control units have rewritable modules that can be read out via an interface and can be flashed. Chip tuning is therefore no longer carried out by changing the memory chip.
The new parameters and mappings are loaded into the hardware. The OBD2 interface has been the standard since 2000 and all vehicles have this interface. It is used for diagnosis and updates. The tuner writes his chip tuning onto the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) via this interface. From the outside and in normal diagnostic mode, chip tuning per OBD tuning is virtually untraceable. The original data from the vehicle manufacturer are stored by the chip tuner and can be written back again if required.Add-on control units that can be simply fitted into the vehicle have become increasingly popular in the last few years. Chip tuning per "Plug & Drive". This form of chip tuning is found mostly in modern diesel-powered vehicles with common rail or pump-metering injector engines. Modern add-on boxes work on a digital basis and communicate with the ECU. A plug-in chip tuning, so to speak. The add-on boxes act on various sensor signals and achieve a power boost of up to 30% – similar to values with chip tuning.
Add-on boxes have their advantages and disadvantages, but the advantages predominate. In addition to the optimisation, various mappings and also limiters are set higher in chip tuning. Add-on control units that can be simply fitted into the vehicle have enjoyed increasing popularity for a number of years. Chip tuning per "Plug & Drive". This form of chip tuning is found mostly in modern diesel-powered vehicles with common rail or pump-metering injector engines. Modern add-on boxes work on a digital basis and communicate with the ECU. A pluggable chip tuning as it were. The add-on boxes act on various sensor signals and achieve in the diesel area A chip tuning achieves the power optimisation of balanced Tuning boxes concentrate mostly on the injection maps, air flow and temperature. Tuning boxes however, in contrast to chip tuning, do not overstep any limits, maximum safety parameters remain at the values set by the vehicle manufacturer.Modern diesel and petrol engines have enormous performance reserves. Oftentimes, car manufacturers deliver identical engines with different performance specifications for different models and car brands. A modern engine runs with consideration to various European fuel qualities, guarantee coverage and emission values with an efficiency of about 50 to 60%. For example, a 100hp engine can be tuned up to about 160hp through the revision of the motor management and small alterations.
With regard to Speedhawk products, we limit ourselves to the optimal customization of various parameters of engine management taking into consideration all relevant control device safety parameters that are determined by the manufacturer.
Each tuning box from our workshop has the optimal dimensioning for known engines and customer wishes can be fulfilled with regard to the safety parameters. Constant further development and quick implementation of our digital tuning systems on new engines make us a partner for tuning that is easy on the engine. Our know-how is your security!
